Cosmo close upby eacComment: Ick - that is a face only a mother could love. the blue eye is creepy and the irregular markings on his face make him look distorted. Odd how one side of the photo is cool blues and the other warm yellows and browns - adds to the mis match. If this were in a challenge it would likly score low. YOU can see his charm and personality and livelness, but I cant see it in this portrait of him. |

Fire Doorby jackal9Comment: Wouldn't this look good as a set of such metal gadgets that we so take for granted that we barely look at. What is causing the halo around the thingy? See there on the left? I'd like to know if anyone does. |

Day 1 - Evby jonfrommkComment: I like the pose the expression, I even like the greyness, all excpet the eyeball, because it is staring right at me, I want it brighter. You can cheat on the whites of the eyes, you know. Zoom in on the eye till it is really big, take a small brush, white "paint" and low opacity and flow (maybe 10%) Paint the whites of the eye slightly with white. It helps to make the eyes the focus of the face. |

Strongby RetroesqueComment: I like the little tree. I like that the sky is so black and white and the trees leaves are so white but the building is greys. The clouds and the tree are curly and unruly in contrast to the regularly repeating curves of the cement. Nature is more vibrant than man made. I agree that the tilt, real or illusion, is distracting. |

DAY 1. B&W. full moon ..by rozComment: This dark to my taste, or my monitors ad if it were in a challenge it would suffer variable-monitor-calibration-syndrome. Its probalby exactly how you wanted it however. You could increase the tonal range and see how it looks. What does the histogram look like? Are there any truw whites? The fence post in the shape of a cross makes a dramatic silouette and the (perhaps) barbed wire makes reference to the crown of thorns. I like the way the "cross" divides the image into four unequal parts, the junction on the rule of thirds point. This is a powerful image. |

Mam Tor to Losehillby PurpleFireComment: Oh wow - this is lovely - I especially like that leading line that leads up to the sky, and lets your eye wander back. |

Saxby BobsterLobsterComment: Drat! I dodnt intend to vote but here is a picture that soo deserves a 10 (or maybe a 15) that now I have to vote on 20% to make it count. Doesnt it look like they are having a converstion, earnestly, man to instrument? Mutually admiring each other? Remembering years of music together? Perhaps they began playing when they were both younger, both show sign of age now. a perfectly balanced image that tells an intense story. |

Old Bridgeby santiago9erComment: I wonder if you suffered from "voter monitor calibration syndrome" It seems a bit dark on my monitor. Darkish images appear too dark on a lot of other monitors and suffer for it. When id doubt, enter a brighter shot or be prepared for a lower score.
You have a dramatic leading ling here, the surface where the bridge and reflection meet, and the decreasing size of the ovals they make. But you line leads the viewer to nothing. Are those birds on the opposite shore? I can't make it out. So, in a speed vote, if your leading line leads the viewer to nothing, his sye continues on out of the frame and his finger says "Next" without giving the rest of the photo the attention it might deserve. |
