Structure, Constructureby riotComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that does not meet the challenge
Great lighting Eugene it brings the building and crane out very well in a 3D way. I like your seeing and the crane shadow it all works well. This would be absolutely ideal under normal circumstances but given that Aaron strived for a flatness in his images I would say although there is an abstract element in the composition, the lighting and colour work against the challenge theme in this instance. Even had it been in mono as most of his work was, in terms of lighting it is simply ‘too good’. |

Structure, Constructureby riotComment by Bear_Music: You got clobbered for being "not abstract" but I don't really agree with that. I was your lone 8. This is, for me, a very powerful image, fabulous light and detail, great sense of solidity and foreboding. For me, "abstraction" doesn't HAVE to be "unrecognizable" at all, and my own entry in this challenge is analogous to yours in that it's clearly recognizable as what it is, but it plays with massing and color to be other-than-simple-recording. Admittedly, neither of us was especially "expressionist", and we paid the price for that, you more than me, but so it goes. VERY cool shot and as an architectural photographer I really appreciate what you've done here. |

Into the Storm IIby riotComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
Mother nature, the greatest artist of them all! The magnificent cloud shapes are beautifully enhanced by the gorgeous lighting that is brilliantly showing off the bright cloud against the textured contrasts of the darker lower clouds, ah its all majestically serene yet threateningly powerful. It could all easily be re-imagined into an iceberg amongst the freezing waters with its reflection and turbulent waves. Your exposure has captured the exquisite detail throughout in a most pleasing way. Yet another superb entry Eugene, thank you for sharing. |

Andalusian Duskby riotComment by mariuca: I partly understood all the suppressing of the details, etc, but the photo widens my imaginations more about this part of Spain. |
