What a great capture! Very good idea -- must have taken forever to wait on. My only thought is that a tighter crop might put more focus on the fish itself -- seems a little heavy on the foreground. Maybe a vertical picture would give a better sense of height -- like the fish has a higher leap to make? Great photo! muckpond

The whole picture seems to be leaning right somewhat, but the reflection is excellent. muckpond

It seems like the house in the background should either be lit up or completely obscured. It distracts from the image in the foreground. muckpond

This is a great photo. Has it been sharpened? The whole shot seems jagged, which is unsettling. This is really an excellent photo, though. muckpond

The red bulb that is kind of the focus of the picture is somewhat obstructed and dark. But this shot has great framing and definitely tells a story. The sky is beautiful, too -- my absolute favorite color. muckpond

Controversial -- a great topic for this challenge. The focus seems a little off and the colors could be brighter in the background, but overall an excellent idea for this week. muckpond

This does look like something that would be in a newspaper -- great idea! The lighting on the top is a bit harsh -- the eagle is somewhat washed out. More even lighting would make this a much better-looking setup shot. muckpond

I certainly hope this wasn't a setup. ;) Excellent, crisp clarity and very good tones. Nice job catching this.

CRITIQUE CLUB! (bwahahahahaha)

Overall impression: Great photo that captures a rather routine moment but is easy for the viewer to understand what's going on. A good way of framing an everyday event in an interesting manner.

Focus and framing of the shot are great. I like the disenchanted look on "Harry Potter's" face, but also the interest on the face of the man on the left. (He's like "what the hell are you doing with a camera on the subway?") The color, unfortunately, is pretty washedout and the lack of contrast makes the lower half of the picture pretty much blend together. The women in the lower right with the dark hair are almost completely obscured in the midst of all of the black clothing; that's unfortunate because you lose the "standing vs. sitting" aspect of the train. The lights at the top are also a bit harsh -- not much you can do about that, though.

I think the thing that is most lacking in this picture is people's expressions about being on the train. One man in the foreground is dejected, one man is looking toward you, and everyone else is just...there. Perhaps a shot of someone looking at someone else, or someone rolling their eyes, or some other image of disgust would illustrate the point of the photograph better.

Who am I to say, really? It beat the pants off of my submission. Good work -- a nicely captured moment in time.

I don't know if the sepia tone works very well for this picture. It's pretty in-your-face and almost detracts from the picture. Very clear and sharp, though. muckpond.
