There is something odd... It seems like the eyes are slightly out of focus, or perhaps were moving at the time this image was shot it may be the large reflectios in them as well - can't tell without blowing it up. I like the composition and lighting, and the natural expression is excellent. But, in a portrait the eyes are everything.

For this shot to work, I think you need a bigger lens. The bird occupies such a small part of the image overall that its intricate detail is lost amongst the busy backdrop of the woods. You may also be able to imrpove this kind of shot by shooting with a wider aperture. Something like f/2 or f/4 on a telephoto would have a good chance of throwing that background completely out of focus and leaving a nice bokeh in its place.

Seems like the highlights went a bit too far in the upper left, but the effect overall is very cool, and the guy in the middle is a perfect compliment. Wierd, but very cool.

I think you could emphasize the nature aspect more in balance with the "mother" aspect by addidng a sense of depth to the image. Perhaps putting the chair on an angle and off center... There's also a significant chunk of blown highlights in the hair which distracts from the overall image.

As a subject, the goose is cropped off-screen. This is a bit distracting. There also seems to be a focus problem in this image. the goose isn't sharp, and the entire background is soft was well. You may also notice the stick which is out of focus on the left. As it crosses through the subject, it creates another distraction.

The detail in the flower petals is fanstastic. Unfortunately, the background is such a harsh contrast that is overpowers the flowers and washes out some of the rich green and texture that may otherwise be found in the stems.

It feels like the flowers are out of focus... The high contrast of this image seems to cancel out any soft-focus effect (if it was intended as such). With a high contrast background I'd go for razor-sharp. With a mid-contrats background the soft-focus may work better. The border also give me a bit of claustraphobia.

This is fantastic! Wish you'd put in some comments as I'm curious about whether this was quick thinking or serendipity. Either way, I love a good natural abstract, and this is top notch.

In my time on DPC I have given very few 10s... This is one of them. This image is amazing. I don't know if it's who you are, but I have rarely seen such synergy from every discernable element of an image.
