Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that contributes well to the open challenge

A lovely portrait Srikanth. This is an image the proud parents will be able to treasure for years to come. You’ve done a good job technically, the DOF is good with the face nice and clearly in focus with softer focus in the limbs and background. The sympathetic lighting is also good, much better, as you say, without harsh flash which would have ruined it. I’m not really sure about the petals and its always better to be able to see the open eyes and expressive faces of children but for a sleeping child you’ve done a good job, well done.

Wow Srikanth, this is a powerful image…! Perhaps your image didn’t quite tell the story as accurately as you hope for but I think the title together with the doll tells it all for me, it speaks of motherhood and a yearning for a child of her own she can nurture. Her pose and expression for me confirms all that and has already been noted the lighting works really well. I think this is a great concept very well executed.

I am also very impressed with your ‘Masters of Wisdom’ image, another very strong concept that works well, keep up the excellent work Srikanth

I should of explained more about the photo, but I wanted the picture to tell the story.
First, thanks a lot for all the reviewers and comments. The concept here is a mother who cannot feed her child with her own milk and pumping in artificial milk, with the hope of survival.

Obviously, we cannot make it too real, but try to make it as much realistic as possible without distracting the original concept.

Getting a such a young kid is challenging and risk also for us hence we used a doll in place of a baby.

I like your use of window light mixed with studio light--my vote was for the light. The subject, the story, was hard for me to grasp. A woman in a non-cosy space attempting, or pretending, to suckle a doll...seems insane, & the IV needles suggest that her health care giver is insane, or delusional, or a poet...the whole thing made me feel uncomfortable but the light was so nice I kept looking. Interesting experience.

This is an intriguing image. To me it looks like a creative sort of child wish, hence the use of a doll. But it’s that same doll that puts me off, it kind of ruins the image. But I’m also touched by the sadness that speaks from this image. Lot of emotions raised by this image, so overall feeling is that it must be a good one. Bump!
