like an icy sapphire, rumbling, tumbling. we (southerners) know it's real but still we don't believe.

I'm not a fan of landscapes, but this one works the foreground and background to tell a story of disintegration. well done.

I'm hanging this in my fantasy gallery

*Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*

A pleasing image that meets the challenge well.

Wow, it was a bright day looking at your settings. You have made good use of that light to get a reasonable exposure that has transformed your subjects into silhouettes. Your image has some very pleasing elements to it but is not without its faults too.

The sea is very slightly not level but its not enough to easily notice. The blown highlights are inevitable to a certain extent but I think a little less exposure would have been of benefit here. The sky is lacking in contrast and the vapour trail is not really of benefit to the overall result. I like silhouettes but I do wish the shapes weren't so confusing here. It looks like a fallen tree she's sitting on but the way it extends into the sea is detrimental and is that her leg or a branch.

Although I may sound negative I do like your image overall and am merely pointing out that which doesn't work quite so well for me. Thanks for your submission, Sid

A portrait with a difference assumed to meet the challenge.

I do like an original approach to any photography and this fits the bill in that respect. I like the hat, the exposure is good and your choice of aperture has enabled detail in the facial features as well as the goggles. As a straightforward portrait in natural light it does the job.

This, I'm afraid, is where I part company with your commenters, because I do not like the goggles and as they are such an integral part of the image unfortunately it does not work for me. In most portraits the most important element are the eyes, as they say, the soul is held there so the fact that we cannot see his eyes at all means it does not work for me at all. Perhaps I am completely missing the point, if it is intended as a fun image I wish it were a little more obvious. Given your additional information about the sandstorm I doubt it is intended as a fun image the sand on his face confirms that but how many of your viewers would have realised this is in doubt.

Thanks for your submission, Sid

An effective shot that meets the challenge well.

Your lighting is good in the way it is emphasising the manufacturer's name which is a name I am unfamiliar with but I assume is associated with a quality shoe? I also like the way the other heel reflects the wear that the shoes have had, this is a refreshing change from stock type images of brand new shoes that look as though they have come straight off the advertising page. That same lighting is picking out the textures of the leather and the stitching in a way that adds to the detail of the whole image.

I'm looking at your exif data and really wondering why you have used such a very small aperture? I know you are close to the shoes and therefore a reduced DOF but given the restricted depth within the shoes themselves I would have thought you could have used something nearer f8-f11 and still got everything in sharp focus. The reasons I mention it are mainly that you are making life harder for yourself in that your shutter speed is much slower thereby requiring good camera support and the smallest aperture will often degrade the overall image quality. Often as well the ISO is raised to get back to more manageable shutter speeds although I'm glad to see you have not done so here.

Anyway, thanks for your submission, Sid
