Exceptionally good photographic version of white chalk drawing. I would hang this one on my wall.
However I will copy in some comments that I have put in with some other entries.

My only concern is, as you may have guessed from the amount of discussion on the forum re "painting with light" is whether it is painting with light.
Having been lucky enough to judge what is now a few hundred competitions in the last 30 years I feel I should say the first thing that happens is that they are sorted and any that do not immediatly seem to fit the category are dumped (hard but a fact). This is why so many competitions also run an "open category". Your picture, as impressive as it is, would, I feel have been rejected at this stage. "Painting with Light" has a fairly tight definition in photography but still allows a lot of lattitude for creativity.
I suspect that your scores may not reflect what the picture is worth which is a great shame. I believe if I was judging in another category I would have gone for a higher score and quite possibly a 10
I do hope you understand my reasons for marking it down

Really glad you understand the photographic term "painting with light". So many in this category did not meet the criteria.
For me (a purely personal opinion) this does not go far enough - you have taken the trouble to get into the dark - setp up a stable platform for the camera - done a reasonable exposure time - but then just went in circles.
I believe it is an excellent definition of what "painting with light" is but as a photograph in itself does not do it.
Hope that does not sound too harsh.
As you understand the concept - have a go with one of the laser torches, or a candle I think you will enjoy it,

Excellently executed and one I cannot find fault on.
One of the handful that have used the accepted photographic definition of "painting with light" and also an excellent pun.
still looking for a fault - still can't find one.
Still can't....
even the damn border is a perfect choice.
I do hope you are making money from your photography. If I can you certainly could
David
ps
Still can't find a damn thing wrong with it and I'm jealous.

Nice picture but the point of focus is a tad vague. You have managed to retain glorious colour and avoided any distracting reflections on the end of the poker.
I will though paste in a comment I have put into a fair number of other entries in this category.

Painting with light as I expected to see in this category - just a tad more symetry (I think) in the face, would have really pulled it out. Great lights - brilliant colours

There are some beautiful pictures in this challenge and this is another one of them. Personally I would like to have seen it cropped a little tighter. There would still be enough black to leave the pestle and mortar "leaping out of the page"
I will copy a note though that I have copied to some other people in this challenge.

I believe if I was judging in another category I would have gone for an 8 possibly a 9 because you have managed to getget the light to work the textures so well.

At last one of the few pictures that can truly be said to fall into the photographic definition of painting with light.
However I find it a little distracting and unfortunatly cannot say why. Covering up the little "bit at bottom centre" helps for me.
It does remind me very much of the technique used by a friend of mine who is a watercolour artist.
She understands that her paintings do not work for me -
Glad that you understood the challenge though

Comment:
Unusually good shot of an often overdone (and badly done) subject. Possibly a little too much black on the left - I would be tempted to crop it but still keep the apples out of the middle.
Here is a comment I have put in some others which will explain my mark.

However This is such a good picture with so much potential (cropping for a foot advert, cropping for an AA advert furniture advert - that I cannot mark it down.
