I won't comment on the photo itself because I don't feel qualified, but as the proud owner of some pretty low scores myself I will say that you have two ways to go. There is a style of photo that does well on dpc, if you want high scores try to find pictures that please dpc people. Alternatively just stick with what pleases you. Or do a bit of both.



I took this for the spinning challenge. I really like it but I knew it would score about 4, so I didn't enter it.



This was in the Fill the Frame challenge. I really like it. So did one or two other people. It scored a 4. I don't care.

I know how painful low scores can be, but keep plugging away. either please yourself or please the crowds, or mix it up and do a bit of both.

well I actually think this is very nice. more interesting to me than any old boring product shots (of course that's what everyone wants to see because that is what they have been taught to see and if you were going for that look you have a lot of work to do) images like this will always score poorly here. i have entered a few of them myself.

Everything that was said below - the things that really distract me in the photo are the heavy shadowing that creates an indistinct visual profile combined with bright highlights, and the overall pink color.

I agree with Art and Crayon, However I think your shot scored pretty decent for what it has to offer. The red light would work well if you had a better angle on the subject and perhaps not so close. I have a feeling however that your presentation had more to do with the alternative meaning of the word Hummer than the perfume or vehicle??

I am not sure how this shot I took would rate in a challenge but it is one of my favorite shots of this type. It is lit from below with 4 colored LED lights with a black backdrop.

"product shots" are appealing usually from the angles they are shot, and the lighting. Look at some and see how you could improve yours?

To be honest, it is a pretty bad photo. Unappealing red lighting, not very sharp / slightly out of focus, uninteresting / straight on angle.

Dig through the galleries for product shots - you will certainly find perfume or other similar product shots and see what makes them different and especially ones that did well in challenges.

Don't be disappointed though - learn and grow. Don't get frustrated - it's a process and you will improve if you keep a positive attitude and listen and look at examples of others who do well.

Good idea to use the icicles in the foreground however I feel a slightly deeper DOF is needed and a little more light on the icicles is needed. The bright areas in the background keep drawing me away from the main subject.
