Ouch...I can see how this, being your first entry in DPC...must have been a bit of a downer. But, as bob350 has explained...you'll get used to the routine in here and I'm sure...do well. Congrats on your first ribbon....The Coveted Brown Ribbon. Lots of people have tried to get one. I have a couple. :) Now...you can move up and onwards. :)

You might take some consolation that last place receives an informal designation as "brown ribbon", received with pride by a number of contrarians and delibertely sought by a few. Search the forum threads for that topic when you'd like a little entertainment. Generally, images that don't seem to fit the challenge topic receive low votes, regarless of the artistic merits. Yours would have done well in an action shot challenge, and probably middle of the pack if entered in the monthly free study. Keep on participating -- nowhere to go but up. See that you've recently registered and this is your first challenge submission. Welcome to DPC.
