Greetings from the Critique Club!

Sorry about the wait for your critique, this is coming out of the backlog!

The first thing I notice right away is the size of your image, challenges can take pictures that are up to 800 pixels wide or high. It might increase your scores to use as much of that space as you can. It's a nice sunset picture, I like the sun setting in the distance, the mountains on the far shore and the wave crashing against the rocks. It just seems like it's missing something, it might just be the grain or it's a little out of focus or something. For future challenges I suggest looking up how to set the size of your images in whatever program you use for post processing. Best of luck!

Although the size is sure to lower your overall score, I like the idea you have going and will score it as though it were a larger size. Good Job.

Greetings from the Critique Club

First Impressions:

Great perspective!

Technical (Comp, lighting, color, focus, Processing):

You framed this shot really well and it looks great. If I were to nitpick I would say it would be nice to have something in the frame that would showcase the height of the object but overall it is quite nice.

Lighting is good for the and the only issue I have is the slightly blown out area in the upper left but the light and shadows on the subject all look lovely. I wonder if you cold have shot this from the other side to get the sun behind you; that would help the bright area of sky and the bit of glare at the top of the subject.

The focus is good but overall very soft. I think with the tones you went with the softness works well but overall it could be a bit sharper. The overall processing seems nice, the contrast works well and I love the colors you have and tone. If this was an advanced editing challenge I would suggest lightening some of the shadow areas just a touch and maybe sharpen.

Challenge:

Meets the challenge very well

Artistic/Emotion:

The tones and color and angle really give this a nice artistic shot.

Summary:

Congrats on a personal best and good finish. And all of this with a point and shoot camera, nice work. Keep shooting and entering the challenges. Make sure you brace yourself when you take shots to eliminate camera shake especially if you are zoomed in, this will help the sharpness of your shots. Overall this shot did quite well in the challenge with just a few technical details (focus, light) keeping you below a 6.

Use more pixels, not a bad shot (may actually be pretty good) but you are going to suffer in the scoring because of the small size of the image.

I like this one. Wish it was that warm here. I can tell it's warm by the way the water isn't one big frozen chunk of ice.
