The lighting here is highlighting the wall in back of this cute little boy. you also have a shadow behind him thats distracting. Try having him stand about 3 feetaway from the wall, and if possible hold the flash away from the camera to allow the flash to be on him not bounce the wall. If thats not possible, I know of two other inexpensive options that you can try. He's so cute and deserves to be the center of the photo :)

Nice subject. Some more diffuse lighting (as opposed tol direct) may have helped to reduce the harsh shadows at the sides of the face.

This shot has all sorts of potential. Seems like image quality is low, but the natural talent in the shot seems great. I really like the lighting effect on the subject's face, but not on the background.
