Your Pathby antimethodComment: Sorry to hear about this photo being disqualified. I still think it was the best photo in that challenge. |

Grandfatherby FedericoComment: This is excellent work. It begs for questions, and I really like that in a photograph. I wanna know more about what I see. This is like a 'teaser' that makes me want to explore this environment and know the people who inhabited it (past tense). It feels uninhabited now, but there was life here at some point in time. Death may play a strong role in this image as well. Kudos on a great shot :) |

Trois by HRoxasComment: This is a fantastic photo. It's easy to get lost in and the color, light, shapes, and textures come together very nicely for a pleasing composition. I like the masculinity here... great work. |

Cannon Beachby ZoomdakComment: The bird creates a nice 'serendipity' element in this photo :) This is a beautiful composition and a great shot for this challenge. |

Brooklyn, NY - First warm dayby dimitriiComment: This is a beautiful photo. It's hard for me to associate Brooklyn with this level of peace and solitude though. This aspect, however, makes this quite appealing to me :) Great shot... = 10 |

Gaiaby jmsetzlerComment: Originally posted by Rasai: John, I was looking at the technical details & noticed that the subject distance is listed at "665M" which would be 2148.95 feet, using a 60mm focal length. That can’t be right; I must not be interpreting this correctly? |
I'm not quite sure about that either. The lens I used for this photo is the only one in my collection that produces this value in the exif data. I think it simply uses this number when the focus is at infinity rather than something less.

I wondered if the spot in the waterfall you mention was just to the lower left of ‘Gaia’? |
No.. It was on the right hand side of the frame that has been cropped out in this composition.

Having learned about the 'Rule of 3rd's' (in an excellent tutorial on this site), I envisioned that it may have placed her too close to the center/top of the composure had you included just enough of the waterfall to see it culminate in the pool. |
I cropped off the right side instead of the left. I composed this shot intending to make the final version square and take out the pool of water at the bottom.

I also wondered if that would have led my focus away from her. I’ll take a look at your site to see if it is there. I hope to learn more about composure/cropping and to see how you worked your magic on it? This was one of my 2 favorites in this challenge. Having just taken another look at your site I see it and the other picture(s) of the Waterfall. Is there something on the left that is ‘unsightly’? In any event I look forward to your photos, comments and knowledge shared! Tim |
There is nothing unsightly anywhere in this particular composition. This version will become part of my own collection. I like this one better than the square version. I have more plans for this model at this waterfall when the weather warms up a little more. She's very cooperative and enjoys being photographed. |
