Lurking
by Kelli

Comment:
He rose from the depths, and looked around, eyes and flesh glowing unnaturally with an inner fire. For only a moment, he surveyed his surroundings, and then sunk below the surface again.

With a slow and methodical gyration of his limbs and tail, he began to glide toward his prey. As he came closer, the water began to steam and bubble around him as his hunger took over.

In a giant steaming, boiling spray, his prey was consumed. He slunk beneath the depths once more.

I'm sorry dad...

She stood there on the brink of the endless sea, and thought about how apt it was, for the turmoil in her mind was like that sea. As the waves crashed upon the shore, so did her confusion and indecision crash upon the shore of her consciousness.

A single tear began in the corner of an eye, and began to forge a trail down the contours of her cheek. She did not know where to go from here. She did not know where to turn. The emptiness in her heart and soul echoed the emptiness and the vastness before her.

With a final blinking tear, and a heart-wrenching sigh, she turned from the waters, and started home. Somehow, despite everything, despite the hopelessness that threatened to consume her, she began to step. Somehow, her feet began to take her down a new path, even if her soul didn't yet know the way.

Old Summer House

Old Summer House
by Structor

Comment:
The wind howled as twilight descended, but despite that sound a general feeling of silence and emptiness penetrated Jorge as he returned from his hunting. As the familiar crimson hues of the roof of his home came into sight, he smiled and quickened his step.

It had not been a successful hunt. Few were, these days. The game had thinned out, and winter was quickly showing its dread and desolate face more and more, scattering what little game there was into distant places. Jorge was worried about the coming months, but the sight of the home he had started out here always gave him hope. He had stores there to last, and his wife and child would be there waiting.

Grinning again, Jorge began the last few steps to home, and in the months to come, to defy the winter and be renewed again in Spring. As it had been for the last few years, as it would be to the end of his days.

Got Her

He came out of nowhere.

In his power wagon, armed with the destruction of worlds, cutting a path of mayhem and tomfoolery. The unsuspecting were cut down viciously. They were left dripping and frightened in his wake.

He came out of nowhere. The elf. The helmeted menace.

He came out of nowhere, and then, as quickly, he was gone.

The Dawn

In the beginning, a blast of light. Searing, violent, beautiful. With it came life. With it came existence. With it came all things.

In the end, that blast will consume us all. Searing, violent. beautiful.

Ancient Shelter

They gathered around the ancient tree, not knowing exactly why. It was as if they were called there. As if a voice sweetly sung to them, gathering them there, singing of safety and love and belonging.

Then, with no warning, it consumed them all.

He'd spotted his prey. Just across from him, standing there, unsuspecting. He did not really know what kind of animal it was. It certainly wasn't his usual hunt, but it was small, and it seemed helpless, and it looked tasty.

He lay there, still as the rock. Staring, hungering. A twitch, his haunches lifting slightly in preparation, his body tensing in anticipation. That tiny prey stood there still, it had no idea.

Then, with nary a warning growl, He...

"King! King! Dinner big guy!" Came a call from his den.

"Look mommy, they're going to feed the tiger!" his prey exclaimed as she was tugged off to parts unknown.

King sighed, relaxed, and trotted off towards his meal of cold chicken. One of these days, ONE OF THESE DAYS, he was going to have something better, oh yes.

He stared at his owner, who stared back. It was working! As the limpid pools of his eyes began to swim, a morass of color and swirling energy, Butter knew he had done the impossible. He'd found the power of hypnosis.

In his mind, he sent the message. You shall get me Whiskas, and you shall get me Whiskas now.

"I shall get you Whiskas", said his owner, "You are a good kitty. Good kitty."

Butter grinned inwardly. Oh yes, the power was his, and Whiskas was only the beginning.

Towering

Comment:
It had been weeks since he started out. He'd traversed many lands, encountered many dangers. Now, bedraggled and weary, he had finally made it. He'd finally reached the base of the tower spoken of in all the legends.

Inside, according to tale, was supposedly the most beautiful woman ever born. Held prisoner in stasis. Only to be awoken by the call of one such as he, A Prince of a Far Away Kingdom. So it was with this hope that his voice rang out, "Rapunzel! Rapunzel! Please let down your hair!"

A few tourists turned their head to stare at the strange man, and shook their heads as his cries turned desperate. At first they'd thought him joking, but it soon became apparent that this was no joke. A few security guards soon showed up and carted the obviously deranged man away, and as they went, the tourists would never forget the echo of "Rapunzel! Why hast thou forsaken me!" for as long as they lived.
