Checkmateby Ice-Tea-1983Comment: I can see the blurry black thing is a game piece, but I don't like it in this image. Also seeing the tips of fingers at the top isn't appealing. |

The Thrill Of The Huntby ddngComment: I really like this image... the color of the sky together with the composition of the silhouette. I think it is a stretch to the challenge topic and don't necessarily agree that if fits, but I certainly understand that everyone's interpretation is different. Nevertheless, great work here. |

Intimate Settingby aboutimageComment: B/W Mentor Group:
I'm not a really big fan of the toning on this one. I also think the image is really busy and I have trouble focusing on any part of the photo. This set up would have done much better against a solid background, still using the mirror under it. I like still life work, I need to get much better at it myself. So, to summarize - take away the background, change the duotone either to a different shade or make the image color and I think you'll have a wonderful image.
What I do for getting a solid background on the few still life shots I've done is set up a full size matboard behind and under the subject. I then take a large sheet of wrapping paper and tape it to the top of the board behind and end of the board under for a smooth flowing background. If I need black, I use 2 black matboards with nothing taped to them. |
