The Lonely Bench

Oh my - a nice and lonely bench, a subject that sings to the soul.

Interesting composition with the walkway leading to the bench and not the view from the bench, nor the bench itself, as the main frame filler.

Walk up and sit a spell. Sit a spell then walk down the trail.

Let me rest, let me sit, let me talk with loved ones current, past, and passed -- yes benches can sing to the soul.

Your processing adds quite nicely to the scene. Tied (so far) for my highest mark in scoring this challenge.

Interesting dof.

I like the selective desat, the bear, and the massive texture of the road.

Well done.

I find the dark shape in the lower left interesting. Is it a shadow? Is it Mom? Dad? Why am I drawn to it? I don't know, but now it's like a piece of lettuce in your job-interviewer's teeth, something you can't take your eyes off. My eyes go there, I pull them to the rest of the photo, then they go back to the (shadow?mom?dad?drapes?paper?reflection?).

It's not as bad as the above may lead you to think, it's just that now that it has registered in my brain I want to know - but it's not a major distraction.

In fact - this is a nicely captured portrait, this is a wall hanger. Nice colors, too!

I find the horizon a distraction, a crop to about 1/2-way between horizon and the top-left-most part of the wave keeps my eye from wandering too far from your way-cool subject. When all is said and done I say "Nicely done!"

Good luck in the challenge! :)

Nice photo Courtenay, even though it's not your style -- makes me pine for the desert!
