I had so much fun with this! Oh, Golly!

That kid is amazing! He was thrilled about going flying! HA! Only asked if he could have something under him. Hahaha! (I'd asked his mom to tell him what we were going to do.)

He thought he was really gonna fly... just needed a mattress, I guess. :D

I went on to explain that he wouldn't REALLY be flying... more like balancing on his tummy... on a stool on the driveway. He was then REALLY interested in how I would make that happen. (Are you in love with him yet?)

He wanted to see my camera after I shot... to see how I'd made him fly. (I know you're in love now.)

When I explained that I had to do it on my computer, not my camera... he wanted to know about that, too! (He's gonna go far in a creative life, I know it!)

Cool kid.

I like him. LOL!

But... it was actually WAY too sunny for this shoot for this shot, but there was no other time for my models to be here. (That "school thing" really cuts into our photographic creations, right?)

I do realize the bright spots wouldn't be there in a storm, but... hey! Let's just go with "artistic license", shall we? :)

Oh. And... that's my grandfather's hat (shot separately). He was 99.75 years old when his body died.

I really cherish his hat (and him). He was a gentleman (Not the money kind... the morals kind). From "old school". He never went out in public without his hat on.

He bought a house on a handshake when he was 76... because his word was his bond. The other party had the same values. And so it happened.

Good times.

I think this is one of my favorite images that I've EVER done. And... so... I don't really care how it scores. I just like it.

It makes me smile.

I do hope that it makes some other folks smile too, though!

Life. It's good, right? Even when it's not.

Oh. Who am I kidding?

I want this to score well. Hahahaha!

I'm so weird.

:D

many congratulations Lydia on your fourth place in this impressive challenge ..
I love this so much ..
and apparently different to everyone else .. i love the sunlight on the umbrella .. the man and the boy .. I feel it gives it more impact somehow .. and definitely more contrasts ..
I don't understand ppl's desire for total 'reality' in these obviously manipulated images .. I like that things can be different from our reality .. and i'm blown away by ppl like you who create these stories with their art ...

loved reading your story of how this all came together ..
I can imagine the boy will want a print to hang on his wall .. and he'd say this really cool photographer wanted to use him as a model ... how cool .. sick .. mad and dope .. that covers all generations I think ..!!!! .. ;)

Funny, good approach to the theme, good use of extended editing. The compositing is obvious but meant to be, and it works. The bright sunlight on the subjects' pants is a little distracting given that it's supposed to be storming; also the blending between the sky and ground is in the uncanny valley - I'd have chosen to make it more abrupt rather than trying to blend it.

Nice edit, although I prefer more natural photographs rather then edited composites. The sunlight on the persons and umbrella seems out of place.
