Models: Maggie and Honey

I was SO excited to do this shoot. I've been wanting to do a snake shoot for AGES, but couldn't find anyone who either had a snake, or wanted to sit for a portrait. Then I went to the dentist and the receptionist said she and her boyfriend both have corn snakes - she has 5 babies and he has 2 adults!! So we set up the shoot for today, and two things happened: they didn't bring the baby snakes, but they brought Honey - their brand new, 5-week-old doberman puppy. She was BEYOND cute and it was inevitable that I also photographed her.

So I did portraits of both the snakes and the puppy, and decided the puppy was more DPC friendly, even though the snake shot is killer. Don't know how this will fare, as this isn't quite the "affectionate" sort of shot I think the challenge described.

The Egyptian "get up" was intended for the snake image I had prepared to do. In the exuberance of the moment when I met the surprise of Honey, the incongruity did not occur to me. Add to that less than stellar editing, and I agree with the voters lukewarm enthusiasm for the image. Apologies for entering an image with which I myself am not delighted.

You gotta Stop with the adorable puppies in a shot.. I saw Nothing wrong with the entire thing cause I couldn't unglue my eyes from Honey!!

No need for apologies I thought it was DELIGHTFUL!!

It's totally cheating to use a puppy! And then make it look so serious. Not seeing a ton of interaction or emotion here but it's a really intriguing shot. Small nit: the human's hand holding the puppy looks kind of purple/grey on my screen.

Beautiful baby. At one point my Katie looked like that and would hid under the couch when she was in trouble. Only problem was it didn't last long enough. She topped out at almost 100 lbs. Pretty big for a female. You have lots of fun headed your way with this little one.

not sure on this, not a fan of the Egyptian feel or the "dead hand" the hand on the dog looks very strange and off putting, let alone the poor little dog get some snap in him get him bulked up :)

I'm going to be amazed if this isn't a tanguera shot. The colors and lighting are perfect.

Great engagement. Hard to do with an animal. The little pooch looks so vulnerable. The two highlights are a bit distracting.

The fabulously elaborate attention to the scene's details reminds me of tanguera's work... but something about the focus on the dog (perfect) and the not-so-fabulous lighting on the human's face makes me say "nope, not Johanna's".

To be sure, being mistaken for Johanna's fabulous pet/human work is quite the compliment.

I hope this is doing well for you.

I like the golds and burgundies here, two of my favorite colors.

that is one adorable dog! The photo is fine technically, tho the model seems a bit stiff, and doesnt appear to be enjoying her rich surroundings. A softer touch on the pooch would help too

The pup somehow gets lost in all of the pattern of the drape and pillow. He sure is a cutie.

I had to bite my lip looking at this early this morning to prevent a high-pitched squee of joy in case I woke my fella, haha. That pup is just the cutest thing, what an expressive face! Nice set-up too. Light on the woman's right side is perhaps a little bright compared to the rest of her but the light on the puppy is perfect. SQUEEEE. *Steals it.*
