Challenge: New Year's Resolution IV (Advanced Editing VII)

I was shooting what I believe to be a female red tailed hawk. I have been following them for the last several months and this was the first time I was able to get close enough for any decent shots. She was sitting on a post and I was shooting away when all of a sudden the male red tailed hawk swooped down and attacked. It happened so fast. It looked like he grabbed her off of the post with his claws and flung her in the air. It was amazing to see, and I just held down my shutter to capture as much as I could. Unfortunately, being the newbie that I am, I had accidentally left my camera in macro mode, and was able to capture only one shot of the action. I think maybe they were courting and neither bird was hurt as they both flew off together a few minutes later.
Thank you so much for your votes, I can't believe I got my first ribbon.

WD Brian! I agree with MacDonald and am continuously heartened that true (not zoo) wildlife images are faring so well these days at DPC. Enjoy the ribbon.

I am so glad this ribboned, this kind of shot is amazingly tough to get. Wow, what mean-ass courting behaviour!

One of the most difficult shots in wildlife photography is to catch a shot that is unusual .. this is unusual and for that reason alone a lot of the rules are dismissed .. you didn't need to get the catch light in their eyes - or even show their heads .. it's a unique shot in it's composition and so deserving of a ribbon.

Hell of a capture. Not sure I've ever seen a shot of two predators in action with zero eyes between 'em :-) Grats on ribbon!

What an intense action photo you captured. I think taking the vignette out would be something I would like.
