 According to Wikipedia - Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in many cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico, where it attains the quality of a National Holiday, and all banks are closed. The celebration takes place on November 1–2, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls' Day (November 2). Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts.

Thanks for the great votes and the comments. Although it is celebrated in November I thought it would be a fun entry and something a bit different.

I think this is very well shot, but... I must be missing some intelligence that others saw. I don't see this as celebration.

Congratulations on Top Ten, though. It's a very well lit, very well composed image with wonderful makeup included.

I've always liked this theme, I shoot models often and I hope to do a shoot just like this sometime this year. The setting works well, very nice model, the make-up is spot on. If I had to criticise, I'd say the saturation on the reds are up a little high and the white orchid is a bit blown out. Otherwise, I like it and think it warrants a 7.
