This has a great classic feel to it. this shot perfectly illustrates that you should do what you want, take the shots that you want, and not listen to the vast group of uniformed voters.

I am so incredibly dumb :D
When I first saw this one I felt there was something obviously deliberate to it, it reminded of other images I have seen, but I just couldn't puzzle out the idea behind it. In the end I had my wife have a look and spell it out to me (it took her 3 seconds, good that there is someone with a brain in the family).
It's really clever and so enjoyable. I am flooded with imagery from every direction, still I very seldom run into something which requires me to use my brain a bit. Wish it would be more often.

Thanks for this, I loved it :)

@ Don - It's nice that you remember that, I would love it if my kids do.

@ Paul - Cheers, big ears.

I honestly thought this was somebody trying to do the old brother-in-my-hand illusion and not quite pulling it off. My Dad took a shot like that of me and my brother, many years ago.

All these comments about focus. Sad.

The strong sunlight makes this image quite contrasty... lighting would be better early or late in the day. The girl is a bit overexposed and out of focus.

A lovely, literally charming photograph. It manages to be both a smile-inducing family 'snap' and a really superb photograph at the same time. That's because it just looks like the former while actually being the latter. I think it's comfortably the best and most interesting picture in the challenge. Thoughtful, unusual, clever, photographically irreverent and perfectly executed - it's not often someone at DPC produces a picture with this kind of genuine substance and durability, that appears so modest at first glance (it's more usually the reverse). 10 and thank you. Plus the best-avoided Order of the Thumb:

compositionally, the photo is well done. Though naming your image the "coop" doesn't make up for the fact your main subject is out of focus.

Well done.

Nice composition but I'd rather the munchkin in focus than the yard behind.

Focus is behind the subjects, as I realize your title, that might be what you intended. I am changing my vote from a 5 to a 7. :)

Nice setting and colours, good exposure in the sunglight, nice sharpness on the trees and the little one on the grass; however, the OOF child in the foreground totally grabs my attention away from everything else, which I don't find to be a good thing since she's not in focus (my brain says the main thing in the photo should be in focus, lol.)

out of focus but not enough out of focus to suggest movement. and the little boy is lost in the shot, its a snap shot more than a set up shot shame as it had potential although the dark fence corner on the right wants cropping out.
