Yeah, that's almost all of my nutty family on my mom's side. Would have entered it in the speed challenge, but in order to celebrate the holiday with them, we flew to NY and dined on Wednesday night. Then flew home Thursday morning to celebrate with my sweetie's side of the family.

Nobody was paying attention to me so I just shouted very loudly for everyone to look at me. Most of them did for a nanosecond, and that's when I took this shot.

Congratulations on your consecutive ribbons! This shot is truly a wonder. I've never seen a dining room like that in my life! Is this your mom's dining room? (Or is that an inappropriate question for a public forum?)

You're just like ... ME!!

Congrats on the ribbon. Condolences on your family.

(But, I assume that you're just like me in that way, too... and... you wouldn't have it any other way.)

The essence of family for me -- everyone around noisy table sharing a meal. Great shot -- a ribbon (second one this week), a score over 7 (second one in the last month), a couple of PH honors. You, young lady, are on a roll. Keep it up -- congratulations.

Congrats on the ribbon...I just wasn't a fan of the choice of DOF here or the cork going through the eye of the main subject.

A gallery nod, a THUMB, a DPC ribbon, AND a 7! (And a commenter's average of 8!) I gotta say it doesn't get a lot better than this (and the shot is AMAZING, so there's that, too). You're awesome! It's official!

Beautifully balanced between a family record and a family hug. It has many lovely fine details (including your own clever disappearance), but it's the overall feeling of mutual affection - you for them and they for you, and for each other - that makes this such a lovely family picture. Thank you. A 10 from me (one point per person), and the alarming Order of the Thumb:

I like the perspective leading to the patriarch, and how him and the old lady look distinctively unconcerned about the photograph being taken.
I am a bit unsure about the bottle in the obstructing the view, was it deliberate?
An higher angle, perhaps from over a chair, would have also given an interesting perspective and perhaps improved DOF at that aperture.

And what a lovely family it is!!

Gotta love it when people don't expect a photo to be taken while they are stuffing there faces!!

Surprise to me that the processing works with this type of shot, but it does.

Wow - that's a lot of mirrors. Makes picture a bit busy for me but if I ignore that it's terrific. Facial expressions varied across family members and "Dad" eating instead of smiling is a riot.

12/01/2011 01:17:36 PM
Great shot, almost surreal! I love the different expressions, the lighting, the changing focus. It would have been even better if the bottle didn't hide the person at the end of the table.

12/01/2011 12:19:43 PM
There's a bit too much going on in this shot, makes it a bit busy, so many faces to look at and in a cluttered setting. One corner of the table being visible at the front makes me wish the shot was rotated very slightly to the left to make the horizon even. The exposure/light is good, some amusing faces, mostly good focus and it does portray family, overall a pretty cool shot; just a bit too much happening in it for me.

Talk about a traditional Thanksgiving meal -- this is a wonderful candid. I love that you caught some people like the couple on the left back prepared for the shot, others like the young lady on the right covering her mouth surprised by it, and yet others like great grandma? in front on the left oblivious and totally focused on what's important -- that delicious turkey. I like the tones and processing, too.
