What a beautiful image.

When I was a kid in the 60's, we lived in Calgary and mum and dad would quite often take us camping in the wilds of Kananaskis. Loved it!

Your shot brings back many happy memories - Thank you.

It always makes me sad when I see masters such as yourself using the same lenses as me! It makes it much harder to get O'B the lenses page here :-)

This had to be In the top three. Congratulations on a fantastic image!

One question, was this picture really taken with a 150mm lens or is that a mistake? if it was the 150mm what aperture and distance did you use to achieve such incredible DOF and sense of perspective? this is even more striking considering you used a 1.5 crop sensor.

Thank you. No, it was made with my all-purpose walk-around lens, the really light Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR. I forgot to change the notes from the default lens (the 150mm macro, which I usually use for most of everything). Details are changed now. You might need to refresh for it to show correctly. :)

It's a handheld bracketed shot, base/+2/-2, merged in Photomatix, saved as TIFF, edited in PSCS5: crop from top, 3 curve layers light/dark/midtones for colour/contrast adjustment, skylight filter, dodge/burn). Nothing fancy in PS.

The 1.5 crop sensor is a bit of a problem for landscapes. I usually do not do landscapes, so it isn't that much of a problem for me. The 1.5 actually works to my advantage for shooting my style, close up and shallow DOF. I bought the D7000 over the D700 because I wanted to stick with a 1.5 crop sensor (and because it was much more affordable, hehe). What is so good about the 1.5 at closeup/shallow DOF is that you get the best part of the lens working for you, no edge fallout to speak of at all. I love that for my usual work. For landscape, well, like I said, I usually don't do landscape so I don't worry much about that.
