Visiting a new area, Snaffles and I came across some birders. Most of them had 500 - 600mm telephotos. They were all shooting this green heron. So we joined them and what a find! The bird had no problem with shutters clicking! Plus his normal distance to us was between 20 - 35 feet. Occasionally getting within minimum focus distance, for the super telephotos. For roughly two weeks, he would feed at this spot. We were lucky to find this spot early. He is still around, but way less frequent. This bird actually helped me take the plunge. As I am now an owner, of a 500 f4L IS. Yeah, birding madness begin!
I really like this image. For me, it is one of those shots, where everything comes together. Shutter speed, subject, light, depth of field and then the subjects action. I really find the blur and lack of, make the shot. The water of the beak was a good bonus too. So with that, hope you all enjoy this image. |

The water flying from the beak turns this excellent photo into something very special. |

Dinosaur? What a wonderful photo. Just the right blur of movement, sharp where it needs it, fabulous colors and contrast. Great stuff. |

What a great expression - the face, the wing spread, the liftoff out of the water - works together well to create that sense of flight and fleeing. Nice catch! |
