I had just submitted my Sepia challenge for the revitalized Johnies Broiler and car hop, when the same night the challenge for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives was announced. Luckily Downey is rich in fast food history, including the first Taco Bell and Frisco Burger Car Hop! As they conserve energy by limiting the time the sign stays lighted, I had to settle for a morning sunlight pic. Hope you enjoy the mini fast-food lesson!

We used to live not far from here at all, drove by it (and ate at it) frequently. This would be in 1962 or so. Thanks for the memories. And, BTW, I'm a Westfalia guy myself, though not any longer sadly. But I have owned maybe 12 VW vans, of which 8 were Westfalias...

they sold exactly 500'000'000? changing those signs must get expensive! J/K I like the placement of the classic truck!

Nice angle on the sign with how it points to the golden arches.

Nice, I wish they all had this old style. That's what Mickey D's looked like when I worked there in the late 60's.

I remember going to this place as a kid :) Nice job with this although my personal taste would be for a little less of an HDR look (understand the light might have been harsh). For the future, I don't think you would have violated any advanced rules by cloning out that light on the left. Good luck!

I was wondering if anyone would include McD's. I'm glad that you did this with the old one around.

There's something I like about those original style walk up McDonald's. I see they have Speedy the hamburger guy on the billboard. I read that McDonald's quit using him as a mascot early on because he looked too similar to Speedy the Alka-seltzer boy. Not a good association for them to be making.
