Challenge: Low Key V (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT

Location: Bonnie Vale, Australia

Aperture: f/11

I went to my local pond during the last half hour of the day for the low key challenge expecting to find some lilies to shoot. All the flowers were gone – damn! Shot some plants and sticks in the water with reflections and then through the trees the low sun broke through right on this bird and trees. It almost looked like a spot light was used. Unfortunately, this bird was a fair distance from me so this is full zoom on the 200mm and reasonably cropped. I wish I hadn’t left the tripod in the car but the sun was moving and I would have missed the shot getting it. So up the iso (which my camera doesn’t like) and capture what I can. I might redo the pp later as Basic doesn’t’ let you do much.

I’m not sure if this will be accepted as a good example of low key but I like the shot too much not to enter it. I would love for this to score well but I’m expect low 5’s for this challenge

I guessed the score pretty much correctly but can't help but feel a little disappointed with the result. The more I looked at it the more I liked it.

Thanks for the lovely comments.

You were fortunate to get this little spot of light. I see you used f11 for this. You could have helped get some shutter speed at f5.6 or even 8, and it would have also helped with the noise that you mentioned, though I don't see it in my monitor.
I love the reflections in the water. The centered composition don't quite seem to work for me in this one. Cropping bottom and the right side may have shifted things enough to gain a little in scoring. I'm just sayin' what I'm seeing, so please don't be offended.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment on my (low scoring) image in this challenge. : ) All comments are appreciated, however, honesty helps more than all the "oohs and ahhhs" to improve my shooting by learning what other people see in my photos.

A true Rorschach. Just a touch too murky, maybe for my eyes.

This made me stare for a while, that's a good thing, 9.
