Challenge: Obvious Tripod (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II
Location: Lower Falls, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Date: Jun 15, 2011
Aperture: f/22
ISO: 50
Shutter: 2.5
Date Uploaded: Jun 16, 2011

This is the lower falls in Yellowstone National Park. I am really glad that there are many trees around this waterfall because it puts the size of this thing in perspective. My favorite of course is the lone tree in the far right of the photograph.

The water was coming down pretty hard that a 2.5-sec exposure gave me a super silky smooth effect.

Ohmyheavens! This photo makes me want cry... Seriously. I don't know that I've ever seen a more majestic photo! That anyone could have given this less than a 10 is beyond me!

That is great, Doc! I'm sure you will love it. My stay here has been much longer that I thought it would be mainly because I can't get over the beauty in this area. IMHO, Grant Teton blows Yellowstone out of the water by a mile. Of course, it's not really fair to compare the two. YS is known for its geysers and hydrothermal activities while GT for its breathtaking mountains and sceneries.

Contrats and well deserved. The first 10 ever from me for a masterful mix of context, content and execution without studio lights.

In my experience it is quite rare to capture the grandeur of such a scene but you've done it. The trees help the scale but I think it's the light and well managed processing to let it glow, so to speak, that makes it work. The long exposure and misty air add an atmospheric perspective that clinches it. Nearly a perfect 10.

Obvious use of a tripod, or any other long-term stabilization tool (1-10 *is not the score of the shot though*): 10
Yep, tripod had to be used.

I just can't get my head around the scale of this - the sense of vastness of the falls provided by the trees is incredible. Like something from another world.

Gorgeous scene. I'm not really feeling the vignetting. It seems to take attention away from the subject in this case.

Obvious tripod use: High.

Either that is the biggest waterfall I have ever seen or this is a double exposure. It's gorgeous but a bit of an optical illusion!
