The title comes from a letter posted on an Alzheimer's board:

Losing my mind and possibly my friend

If you have a family member who has any type of dementia, you know what an incredibly difficult, terribly scary, horrible time it can be.

The title says it all.

This is dedicated to the people and the families living with dementia.

Thanks for the votes, but thanks even more for the comments. This means a lot to me.

Years may have gone by since this challenge entry, but I still often think of this image. I'll never forget the overwhelming feeling of both sadness and distress it gave me.

It resonates even more now that my grandma is dealing with dementia/Alzheimers. I recently visited her and she didn't recognize me for several minutes which left me in absolute shock and with such a strong feeling of emptiness.

Thanks, yet again for this image. It'll be forever memorable to me.

Nicely done. Maybe a tad too dependent on the title but in combination it's very effective. I like the raw quality. Had you made this look perfect it probably would have scored better, but at the same time resulted in a sterile image. We have too many of those.

Congrats, a lovely sentiment. Symbolism is spot on. At first, I didn't like the floating vase, but it is actually a nice touch...patient's with AD can feel isolated in their own mind.

You're on a roll babe!

I recovered from my op in an after care place which also houses old people with issues. I met a few people with dementia there and that contributed to my massive paradigm shift. Thanks for sharing a very special creative moment with us.

Congratulations on your ribbon ... but more importantly on creating a photo that creates a visual manifestation of the loss. Two aunts and one uncle died from complications of this disease so this photo touches me in it's beautiful simplicity that speaks volumes.

The image, along with it's title is very striking. Thank you for ncluding a petal mid-drop.
This is gorgeous.

ETA: You're the only image I gave a 9 to, which is the highest I gave. Don't know if you'll ribbon, but I love this, and IMHO, you deserve it.

The flower may have lost half of its petals, but it still looks like a flower, smells like a flower, and probably makes people smile like only a flower could...
