 yes, this is a self portrait. I was taking photos of the pier and decided to see if I could get a good night silhouette. Obviously from my score it didn't work. This is a 30 sec exposure so I expect there to be some blur from me not being able to hold perfectly still that long and around the bottom of the pier from the crashing waves (they apear to be a mist or a fog, but really it's just large surf)

Jenn...is this a self-portrait? Is that you in the photo? I like the moodiness of this photo...the thoughtful pose of the person and the dimensional echoes of the pier squares. The focus appears a bit soft for my taste and the heavy frame feels claustrophobic in a photo that demands breathing space. Beautiful location!

I see, to submit a nice shot which ignores the topic is a good way to rack up comments :). ...when did you actually take this, Jennifer? (it says taken June 9 but uploaded June 5, hmm?). My shot of the same pier was uploaded on June 5 as well... so I wonder, we might have been at this pier on the same night!

I don't think silhouettes have detail in them, do they? There's detail in all of this... so I dunno how to vote on this... will come back later.

Feel free to PM me with a contradiction of my possibly faulted understanding of "silhouette".

I love this shot, and I would've voted it very high in a free study. I give credit for some detail on the subject, but here there's no silhouette in sight.

I really like this shot but, as you have probably been told, it does not represent a silhouette. You should have kept it for the free study ! :-)

The texture in the supports and the water is beautiful. I wish she had been raven haired and wearing a darker top so this would have fit the challenge better. Not dinging you for that though, since the picture is really nice anyway.

Nice high quality night shot, but I'm not seeing the silhouette in this.

it may just be my eyes, but the verticals seem to be slightly rotated to the left.
