This will get slammed in voting I’m sure as for most people it’s not very interesting and pretty. I spent a bit of time trying to set this shot up but I couldn’t get exactly what I wanted. This is as far back as I could get with my 50mm prime but I wanted to get a little wider shot to get more of the autumn leaves bokeh. Alas, the foliage behind me wouldn’t allow it.

It’s a tripod shot with aperture reduced to f/20 and an exposure of 4 secs. The sun was fading fast and the tree was already in shadow. Probably would have benefited as a HDR but I don’t know how to do that yet and I don’t have the software.

I wanted to show how the tree was growing around the wire. It required a deep DoF to maintain the textures of the tree as well as having the fence in focus. I tried a couple of small DoF shots but it suffered more than to create the interest I like from those types of shots. Once I knew I couldn’t get the background in the frame I envisioned this as a B&W shot but there wasn’t enough contrast to make it clear what I was shooting. There probably still isn’t enough and I feel this is one of the reasons it will do poorly.

I entered this only a few hours after the challenge was announced and planned to replace it with a more interesting shot but I didn’t really find anything. I planned to pull this image but after looking at it more and more (and only an hour to cutover) I decided I liked it enough to keep it in and just let my average suffer. I expect this to finish in the 4’s and very few if any comments. I expected similar with my Boker VII entry for other reasons and was pleasantly surprised with a new PB but I have no expectations for this shot.

amazing how the tree has adapted over time to a become a fence post but I am more intigued by those beautiful colors behind the chain link fence.
