I was very 'lucky' or fortunate for this to make top 10. Thank you for the critiques and comments and being honest. I think thats what i find so wonderful about this site. I have grown SO much and its because of the wonderful people who make this site up and the time you put into leaving a comment or two. So thanks again, and hopefully i'll make top 10 again really soon! :)

BTW for anyone that questioned that tear placement, i just dumped water in my eyes and that one ended up being more 'stand-outish'. so i made it stand out even more. I look at it now and do think that it is a little odd for placement but oh well.

Actually this looks pretty convincing and I gave it an 8. The only thing that looks added is the tear. I wonder if some smeared makeup would have pushed it to another level or not. Great work again!

edit: I take it back. Makeup would not have worked here actually.

Nicely done except the tear looks artificial as if it was planted there.

Lighting is excellent. There is a palpable sense of sadness - the model is looking up at the audience. Thus I get the sense of innocence, of a child looking up at a parent - even though the model in the picture is a grown young lady I still get that emotion and I feel the clutching the teddy bear to the chest helps strengthen that mood/emotion/feel. The facial expression is one of pleading expectation - "make my hurt go away". There is just one thing that lessens the impact of the photo and that is the position of the tear. (Speaking as a mother) I have never seen a tear come from the opposite side of the eye. I have always seen the tears come flowing from the eye duct near the bridge of the nose and leak down in a path between nose and the cheek. Or if the tears have build up from the eye duct they can sometimes overflow from the middle of the eye but I don't see any build-up of tears in the eye of the model. The position reads wrong and because it does it tends to contradict/lessen all the other visual clues of hurt & sadness.

Sad expression, yes. The cliche' single fake tear kills it for me. Nice soft color and I like the wet hair though. Sorry and good luck.

Nicely photographed and a nice attempt at meeting the challenge. However, aside from the tear on your cheek, there is not a single thing that says sadness about the expression. Real sadness is characterized by wrinkles in the middle forehead region, tense drawn up eyebrows (not relaxed), tightened and brought up lower eyelids (not down and relaxed), and stretched and tightened lips that have been drawn down at the corners (certainly not open and relaxed).
I am really trying hard to see past the super fake expression, but I just can't.
As said, it is photographed well, and the attempt was certainly made. So a 6
