Brilliant photography. Does not get much better than this. You cant stage love like this. You cant predict it either. You can just be fortunate enough to be in sync with the moment, the emotions and life happening in front of you.

Lev, I spent quite a while looking at the other entries again after the results were posted and, as inevitably happens, other commenters revealed wonderful things that I had either missed or underestimated. But none of it has changed my view that this is the Best of 2010. I hope that some of the people who didn't rate it highly and have returned to take another peek may re-evaluate not your photograph, but rather themselves. To be indifferent to this is to be aesthetically anesthetized.

Yeah, incredible image here. I was away and haven't had a chance to look at anything yet but this is on another level. Wonderful story and excellently processed. Composition lends to the tale, the squared off lines are pleasing and the rush of foliage simply soothing. Priceless expressions. Again, incredible image.

This is simply brilliant and brilliantly simple. The motion, the stillness, the peaceful sleeping child, the slightly annoyed child, and the oh so patient and loving mother. 10 because there is no 11.

magnificent capture. I know I should know who this is, so I'll leave my score at 7. But put you in my fantasy art gallery.

I think it's every photographer's dream to capture a story like this... the mother's voice in the speeding train, the kid prepared for the rain outside, the sleeping baby... One of my top picks in this challenge.

Nice. I like the stark difference between the movement outside of the train and the relative stillness inside.

Everything about this image is right. The subtly muted tones, the motion blur outside the train. The facial expressions of mother and child. The kicker is the baby off to the right. One of my 10s in the challenge.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: There is something about this simple scene that just stops me in my tracks - it is so beautifully captured, so honest, so lacking in fuss, so everyday, so slice-of-life. There is beauty in that simplicity - I overwork my images to near death so I feel I have learnt something just by looking at this. It is really transportive too - I feel like I am there.

Critical stuff: Nothing at all.

Overall: Lovely, subtle, even masterful shot.

Superb photograph. It's my top pick as the Best of 2010. My preferences more commonly run to strange, blurry, even willfully low-fidelity photographs, and not to those of the more literal style like this one. But this one is so good, so genuinely outstanding as a photograph of charm, interest and beauty, that not only can I not overlook it, I can't rank any photograph in the challenge ahead of it. Inspired composition, flawlessly executed, and absolutely alive with possibilities. And a very fine example of the fact that you don't have to be 'weird' to produce an original and durable photograph; but if you're not weird then you have to be very, very good indeed. I think this is comfortably in the top half dozen or so photographs ever at DPC.

I'd like to hope that this could be the first time in my six years here that I ever successfully predicted the blue ribbon, but given that it seems impossible to underestimate the popular taste of DPC I suppose my record as a judge will remain unblemished by success.

Its interesting how small things can make a photograph. When I first saw this picture, I wanted to just hit it with a 6 and quickly move on. But then I spotted the little boy sleeping on the right, and that prompted me to look longer at the photograph and find it much more interesting. This photo tells a story, well done! 7
