I am intrigued by the photographs on the wall - especially the most prominent one which uncannily(?) mirrors the entry preceding yours, #295. Nice slice.

I think the title biased me in the wrong way. Reading the comments and looking again, there are some interesting things to take in -- the way her face is lit up, the picture behind her... Anyway...

well seen - the glow on the server is great

I quite like how her face is lit, and most everyone else is faceless, with that poster/photograph of the solitary figure behind. Nice commentary on the job of being a waitress/waiter.

for me this seems to be a bit soft on the focusing

it's really a snapshot to me...lacks intentionality and creativity...exposure is good, but her legs are chopped as is the guy on the left...for a best of 2010, it doesn't have the wow factor 5

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: I've seen this image or an adjacent image before. I believe I liked it then and I certainly like it now. I like how we see her in context, the light on her face emphasises her but you include enough elsewhere in the frame to situate her in the world. We want to explore the surrounds, find out what is around the corner. Normally I'd want the background less prominent when there is a primary subject like this but here you've made absolutely the right choice.

Critical stuff: I think I'd have taken the highlights on her face down a little.

Overall: A very rich photograph. Lovely.

I enjoy the dark tones and the fact that you capably captured the warmth of the ambiance in this establishment. I wish there were a more captivating subject than the illuminated face of the server staring off to the right. I'm assuming you did as much as you could to correct the noise from a higher ISO.
