Challenge: Rubber Ducky II (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: Humor
Camera: Nikon D700
Lens: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR
Location: San Diego
Date: Jan 15, 2011
Aperture: f/9
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/13s
Galleries: Humorous, Studio
Date Uploaded: Jan 16, 2011

The hard part was to come up with an interesting composition that would use all the required components that would interact together in at least a semblance of a story. After that, the actual setup was pretty easy in advanced editing. Used a couple of pins to fix the ducky to a tightly stretched rope, and a thin black thread attached to another needle behind the head to hold the ducky up. Then two more needles stuck in the beak and the tail as support for the beans and tomatoes. For lighting I used three LED flashlights - one red on the right facing the camera and two white on the left facing the ducky. The thread and barely visible heads of bottom pins were erased in post-processing.

...I still cannot believe I played in this silly challenge, without even an excuse of helping my DPL team :). But in the end it was a lot of fun, and hey, I'll take the ribbon anytime! Thank you for the votes and comments!

One of the best, 7 (although there are no vegetables - tomatoes and beans are not supposed to be vegetables, so they say; no impact on the score)

Awesome job on the balancing of the duck. Im guessing you used toothpicks on the vegetables and propped something behind the duck to keep it all in place.

Clever duckie! And very coordinated, I might add. I like all the red rays coming out of the light, too. Nice work!

Great balance! No, really - love how the subjects are balanced in the shot:-) The string divides the composition at a diagonal with the tightrope ducky on the top half and the spotlight in the bottom half. I get the strong sense of the ducky being a circus performer in the big top- well done in putting all the elements together. Love the creative way you included the vegetables in the shot - for tightrope walkers do balance objects as one thing in their act. Nicely done!

Great balance Ducky has on the high wire with both tomatoes and olives so precariously balanced. Nice work. 8

Brilliant. Lighting on ducky is a bit harsh and could be better but really love this.
