Woke up on the 5th, looked out my window and saw these guys up on this manlift. They were taking photographs of my city, I'm sure, but there's a bird on the right of this picture which suggested the name of this one.
I don't think it'll score well, much like my recent entries. Not so hopeful this'll break 5.0... I do like it though.

Anticipated criticisms:
* Too dark at bottom
* Bird not very obvious
* Sky blown out
* Top of sky distracting

Post challenge
I just got a copy of SilverEfex and I think I did a better (albeit not basic, vignettes) edit of the shot.

Yes! Beautiful composition. Tones. Mood. Story. Lucky (now-famous) bird. Awesome shot.

At first glance, nothing about this photo says work to me. But I tend to take things much too literal at times. Upon further consideration, several thoughts come to mind. If you consider who might use a manlift to get into position for bird watching, then it comes to mind that this might be these peoples jobs, maybe some type of research. Or maybe it represents the amount of work that it would take to set up and employ a manlift for bird watching.

But if I consider the overall moodiness of the photo, with the mostly dark brooding sky along with the dark figures in the manlift, I get another representation. To me, the bird seems to be flying away from the figures towards the light area of the sky. Perhaps the bird represents the work and effort that it takes to reach a higher plane of existance, or perhaps heaven, from the sometimes darkness of our life here on earth. That would be truly worthwhile work.

A thought provoking image.
