I do quite like this shot, since it was one of those moments of catching some wonderful light at a moment when it was quickly fading behind a tree shadow or the like. It's the shadow of the central tendrils of the flower that made me stop and capture this image. The several follow-up shots were a little too late to catch it before the sunlight went behind a tree/cloud. Another reason I like this shot, is that it is really fairly minimally processed (initial exposure was about a stop too dark). I didn't feel the need to enhance the white balance or saturation at all.
Artistically, I do feel like I could have selected something "better" from my candidates (mostly B&W stuff shot during the Posthumous challenge), but I was pressed for time before the submission deadline and so I went with the pretty brightly colored shot, even though it was really the interesting shadow that drew my eye to the subject. I wonder if anyone will comment on that shadow. In B&W, that shadow might have been a bit more prominent. I'll have to play with the processing before voting is done. :)
This has been in voting for 3 days and has a 5.5ish score, which is probably about what it'll see at the end of voting. I was hoping for a 6, or even high-5's, but I'm not expecting it will do that well. |

I admire this one for the shadows & light. And the fresh, lively color. |
