FYI - I have never used selective desat in any of my posts. I will not say I never will but I am not a fan. This is shot into the sun so the blue bag is bright. You can look at the shadow over the manhole cover and see a bit of reflection or look at the top left and see a bit of color. This photo would pass for basic editing. I’m a bit upset that people thought it wasn’t legit and I guess I should have realized this might happen. I did try it in b/w but I actually like the blue plastic bag. I like the way it’s being dragged home through the muck – not unlike a hunter carrying home his prize. At least that's the way I saw it.

About the photo - I live with NY street traffic. I work in the touristiest part of the city. I stayed home on Black Friday. I will always stay home on Black Friday. I hope you got the message.

PS – I was thrilled to be part of this PH challenge. Quite honestly and in my own way, I view every challenge as a PH challenge but this one was special because everybody participated all at once. I would love to do it all over again and again.

I just realized I've left someone else a comment and called her Penny! Sheesh. So, this is a fabulous image, PENNY, and except for recognizing it as NY, thought it might have been Deb's entry.

I so wish that bag weren't blue. The white lines and perpendicular black shadows would play off of each other so nicely otherwise. I'm not sure what story you're trying to tell. In any case, I'm happy to find my own story.

The idea behind the Posthumous Ribbon is to encourage you to break the rules, to find new and different ways to express yourself. To free your mind to think clearly toward the solution that is certain to come, to laugh at world and at life, not doing what others are expecting you to do, but just following and listening to what's in your heart. DPC it’s a wonderful learning place where everyone should be supported on their way to be a photographer. A special attention should be aimed to those working hard with different views and approaches to photography, those not aligned with the mainstream taste and receiving no recognition. It’s our responsibility to support these photographers creating diversity and expressing different visions. Being active at the Posthumous thread it’s the best way to do it. Being active at the Posthumous thread it’s the best way to protect your and the other’s freedom of being different. Thanks for taking the time to enter this challenge. Stay wild.

Capturing the essence. Low down, grit, matrices, crossing crossing... But the blue bag I need to ponder.

a glimps of something we normally don't spot as we hurry about our daily lives, the light and the shadows really make this photo stand out for me.

Great capture. Makes me so happy I wasn't out shopping that day. Love the blue bag in the otherwise colorless scene.

I like that punch of blue in an image that's color... but almost BW. Well done. So much to look at. (not voting)

what a great, and "timely" image of our consumerism! :)

Immediately, I'm captured by all the criss-crossing silhouettes! And that blue bag just anchors the whole image for me. Love this one. Hope it does well for you! (no vote...just lurking)

That's a pretty grim view of the American dream, I suppose. I like the density and the washed out colors against the bright reflection of of the crosswalk, allowing the shopping bag to stand out. (not voting)

here is an amazing shot. so simple. the blue is a major hit with me and draws me to focus on the manhole covers; a kind of a static peace amid the chaos of the crowd. nice work.

Selective desaturation? The overall look of the image is good. Nice with the long shadows.
