This is a 17th century torture chamber.

Thank you for the splendid comments, and for the hand of the dead guy.

The torture chamber dates from about the 1660s. There's a dungeon right next door on the left ... a sort of waiting room for the sinners.

Anyone who attended a Catholic school in the 1950s (well, anyone still alive) will understand the title and the symbolism only too well.

Wow. Good stuff. Makes me wish we had one around here, sort of.

You and Steve surprised me with how much narrative you put into your photos for this challenge, almost to the point of camp (the narrative is campy rather than the style of the photo). I like to think this is your tribute to my affection for camp and for "set up" shots like the work of silverfoxx (feel free to let me keep thinking that).

The "sharp blur" in this photo is just ravishing to look at, and how the face is rendered so differently than the hook.

I can't believe I didn't comment on this -- I gave it a 10. I find it very disturbing, perhaps a depiction of deep depression or thoughts of suicide. Not something I want on my wall, but something that will definitely stay with me.

So this was yours, eh? Somehow "fitting", my friend. I find it interesting that the "imagined abattoir" turns out to be real. Top-20 is a nice finish. I gave it a 9, and nearly a paw...

10 from me and one of my top picks.

This is one of my faves of the challenge. I had one interpretation and then I looked up the word to see if it fit. Now I just see that confession can lead to a sense of doom - as opposed to the intention of leading towards grace. Interesting.

Contrition. Confession. But a trace of victimhood here as well. Why is the torch not lit? And of course, why is there a hook? One wishes to explore the imagined abbatoir..

The idea behind the Posthumous Ribbon is to encourage you to break the rules, to find new and different ways to express yourself. To free your mind to think clearly toward the solution that is certain to come, to laugh at world and at life, not doing what others are expecting you to do, but just following and listening to what's in your heart. DPC it’s a wonderful learning place where everyone should be supported on their way to be a photographer. A special attention should be aimed to those working hard with different views and approaches to photography, those not aligned with the mainstream taste and receiving no recognition. It’s our responsibility to support these photographers creating diversity and expressing different visions. Being active at the Posthumous thread it’s the best way to do it. Being active at the Posthumous thread it’s the best way to protect your and the other’s freedom of being different. Thanks for taking the time to enter this challenge. Stay wild.

Tough call for my top 3 so I went ahead and picked 4. I have this as a tie for third in the challenge. Pleasantly creepy with great textures and mood. I have no clue what type of location I am looking at but I am enjoying this none the less. For that I give you a .

Nicely laid out. Its compelling surreal quality is detracted from only slightly by the title, in that I prefer not to have any hint of whatever implied symbolism was intended. I think a treatment of the highlight tones would have made this more expressive -- would have made it stand out more -- but that's up to the artist.

Bizarre, and I'm a little confused about the story you're trying to tell. In any case, it's a good exercise for the imagination and a good fit for this challenge.

A evocative view of the practice spiced with a good sprinkle of Protestant gloom.

Thanks for allowing some guessing: a God finger coming to lift us for a sinful thought provoked by a passing by girl? It is the "needle" stuck on the left wall that I can't explain. (not voting)
