Kind of a crazy shoot. My roommate's a diver, and, fortunately, he was nice enough to bare with me for 1.5 hours as I made him go off the 3 meter over and over and over again...

So there are two speedlights, no deflectors or umbrellas, either side of the diving board at almost his height set to full power. Triggered by Cactus V4. Me, I'm under the diving board, hanging by my feet, in jeans, with everything but my arms and my calves in the water. One wrong move and the camera would've been 14 feet under water.

Really hoping for a 6, but will probably get a 5.5.

This is absolutely spectacular! Inspires me to get out this summer at our local pool and shoot the dive team.

Just to answer Chicagrafo's question, yeah, I tried this exact shot maybe 6 or 7 times and this is the closest I could line him up to the board. It probably had something to do with the fact that the block i was hanging off of wasn't exactly centered with the board. Appreciate the criticism though, really.

Would have worked better in vertical or portrait orientation.

Did you have problems aligning the diver with the board? Symmetry would have given an extra punch

I called this to ribbon, and I'm glad it did. I do agree with Robert here though that the landscape orientation was a little awkward to the eye. Not that it's a bad thing because it can add to an image as much as take away from it. In this case it more than likely helped as you got your ribbon which again...I knew you would. LOL. :) Congrats!

The subject is too much to the right IMO and away from the light.

I wish that he had a little more room in front of him. Part of me likes the feel of almost leaving the frame, but a larger part just feels squished. Doesn't affect the vote; I'm just thinking out loud. :) -7-
