Clear plastic forks placed on my iPad. Polarizing filter on the lens, that's what makes the freaky colours show up. The technique is called cross polarization.

Inspired by this photo by AndrewTO:

[Aug. 18th, 2010 09:50:53 AM]

It's not a hair, it's a flaw in the fork. I didn't see it until editing and of course I can't clone it out in basic. I suppose I could have re-shot with a different fork but what can I say, I'm a lazy photographer! :)

..and don't forget those of us who even if we tried to re-create AndrewTOs photo, would get nowhere near as perfect as this. Just because one photo is based on another doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to win.... although I do agree that the photographer should state in their notes/description that their photo is based on someone else's work, if appropriate and clearly so.

Well done on your Blue. Looks like a hair during the moulding process :) Eeeuw someones eating from that! :) The tips of the forks were OOF. Thought with a still you could have increased time vs DOF. Still it got an 8 from me. wd!

Congrats, Karen! I liked the patterns and crazy colors in this. I was going to say you're on a roll, but after 30 or 40 excellent entries in a row, it's pretty clear you've hit your stride long-term. :)

Fantastic shot. I'm sure it is not as easy as it looks to align these fork perfectly. And of course the coloured back-lighting is awesome. My favorite of the challenge!

Lovely setup, conceptualisation and shooting. A few mishaps with focus and hair but otherwise very good.
