I’m not expecting much from this photo as far as votes are concerned. I predict this to finish in the high 4’s or low 5’s. Anticipated criticisms (if any) are ‘yuck’, ‘too dark’ ‘poor composition’ and ‘I see hot pixels and sensor dusts’.

The placement was not only to try and represent a ying-yang but to hide the worst of the camera’s sensor dusts (got to get that thing cleaned). Lighting was achieved using a dolphin torch wrapped in a white pillow case. Not ideal but you can only use what you’ve got. Enjoy (if you can) :-)

Post Voting:

Thanks everyone for your comments. Although I wasn't expecting the score to be so low (my worst ever), I knew it wouldn't do so well in voting. I had quite a few different shots taken for this or the Under challenge and I know they all would have scored higher. Still I entered what I liked and what took the most effort to achieve with minimal editing.

I think the plate is a little distracting from the subject. Good idea though :)

Flat and underexposed.

I really don't like this image. The overripe fruit I just don't find appealing and that makes me take a point off.
I do like the black framing of the plate and just wish it was an image of something else.

I can see the effort you've put into this shot - your house must have been a bit smelly with those bananas! ;)

Perhaps a close-up or macro shot of the banana might have worked a little better. That way you could really try to capture some of the over-ripe gruesomeness in the texture. Of course that might have invovled more handling of those, how to describe them, 'former' bananas!

Good idea for the challenge. I would suggest using a bit more light so we could see more of the details.
