Had a fun day of shooting. I started shooting this church with 8x and a 4x ND filter AND a polarizer AND a neutral grad. And of course I got the "scope-view" vignetting that comes with that number of filters. (All I need was the cross-hair)

This particular shot was just the polarizer and a soft edge Singh-Ray neutral grad filter. Had I shot this with cloudy white balance I could have almost just cropped it and entered it.

I did have to remove one stupid dust spot. I adjusted white balance, clarity, and vibrance. Exported as tiff. In PSP XI I resized, ran one pass of sharpen, resized again, added the border and exported it to JPG

Did I ever tell you I was born in Calgary? Anyway, I have usually been starting way down in the 5.5s, but I'll start with your highest scoring shot. I think this shot is excellent as a landscape. I saw in your notes that you used ND filters. I have to say, I haven't pulled mine out in ages because bracketing and manual blending of exposures in PS can do such a great job. Either way, you did well with the sky, but I thought I'd offer the idea up for you to join the 21st century. ;) The hearty, yellow tones contrast nicely with the sky. I'd be proud to have this on my profile.

The simple design of the church, the light, the open landscape with mountains in the BG, the clouds being just right with the ND, and no power lines, make this whole scene a very pleasing one.
Congrats on the new blue !

Another Blue in Alberta! Well done young man...not bad for a Nikon ! ha ha ...this is the first church I thought of when they announced this challenge , ( I remember recently, they filmed a Jesse James movie there.) However I never got out that way during the Challenge
The upper/lower borders really work well here with that wide crop .... pure genius! Very well done Congratulations on your first Blue the next one should arrive shortly

Way to go! You rocked it with this one. You snagged first place, blasted your old PB out of the water, and let's not forget, produced a serene and eloquently understated photograph in the process! Congratulations on your blue.

[i]Just upgraded to a Nikon D90 (March 4th 2010). Probably not going to find my way to a ribbon any faster but I think it was time to upgrade.

Looks like it worked. Congrats.

Seems like you caught two aspects of church - the building and nature

The borders really distract, especially the bottom one. I have to force myself to look at the church. The image works well, with the fence leading me across the shot.
