Challenge: HDR III (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: 2010
Camera: Canon EOS-50D
Lens: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
Location: Fort Worth, Texas
Date: Jun 3, 2010
Aperture: F8.0

Shutter: 1/6, 1/3, 1/2, 1 1/3
Galleries: Architecture, High Dynamic Range (HDR)
Date Uploaded: Jun 6, 2010

4 RAW exposures. I'd shot 5, but one got tossed out from camera shake. I converted them to TIF, as photomatix gives me no ability to adjust white balance and this building had a serious yellow cast from the nighttime lighitng. One of the RAW files was converted a second time at a lighter exposure to replace the blurred one.

A lot of selective editing to keep the building white, while enhancing the gold colored trim.

I expect this will perform mediocre in this challenge, as it is not the brightly colored, heavily tonemapped eye candy that most expect from HDR. I really like it, however. Using the HDR techniques, I was able to pull in a lot of detail and sense of dimension. Success will be measured by the kind of feedback I get in comments.

Anticipated critiques:
-Does not look like HDR
-Not colorful enough

Post-challenge notes:
Probably got slammed a bit by the crowd that want to see obvious use of HDR. I suppose if I'd applied some more tonemapping, it might have averaged higher, but my objective with this was to use HDR in a more natural manner, not to score high. Still did pretty darn good, IMO. This is one I am pleased with and proud of, regardless of anyone else's opinion.

I love this since I do NOT like the obvious use of HDR. Wonderful work, and it sounds like you really slaved over it :-)

Clear, crisp, interesting and well done.

I think a lot of people expected the typical scenery/waterscapes that DID grace the front page ribbons but, I think this was a brilliantly done shot! Pat yourself on the back for it! :)
