An F-18 pilot at the Cowtown Warbird Roundup. I've been liking the people shots I've been getting with my 10-24mm Tammy, though it sometimes freaks people out when I get 10 inches from their face. On the positive side, that often causes some fun smiles as well, and the folks that are hams tend to play up to the lens.

Not the biggest and best airshow I've ever been to. There were some flying demonstrations scheduled that didn't happen, which was a disappointment, but I did get some great shots of a T-28 performing and lots of interesting static displays were around.

Hoping this will do well, but also expecting some minor flaws to hold it back from being one of the higher scoring shots.

Anticipated critiques:
-His eyes are mostly closed
-Wristwatch is a distracting element
-The other aircrew sitting under the plane are a distracting element
-Slight visible tilt

Post-challenge notes:
Can't complain at all about a 6+ in a freestudy! I'm particularly pleased that my people photography is improving.

Love how you captured his spirit and told a story. Terrific use of wide angle. Great shot!

Wow, what a perspective! He's got a great smile, and then WHAM! I realized what that was zooming up from the background. The shot has the same vibe as those of dogs with their owners, with the dog's snout zooming up similarly from using a wide angle lens. I bet he feels similiarly affectionate toward his chariot.

This was the shot that put you on my map. I was blown away by it, by the use of the wide angle in an intimate portrait, by the inclusion of the plane and the incredible sky. I only just now realized that there are two other people in the image.

I love this one. I especially like the perspective of the pilot in relation to the jet. I live near Cold Lake, Alberta and I once got to take a tour of the AF base there. Actually got to sit in an F-18 cockpit. Very cool although I can't imagine how a big guy can be comfortable in one of those.

A very interesting image.. I think the tone mapping and/or structuring was a bit heavy handed, as there seems to be some haloing going on.. But--- Looking past that, this is a fun, very cool perspective shot, his expression is great, and the crew sitting along side the aircraft adds to the photo. I'm guessing this was a candid, but damn, I would believe it was a photo-shoot. Well done overall, you get an 8, not for image quality (the halos kill me), but for such a nice story.

The distortion in this bothers me - from the shape of pilot's head to the nose of the plane, the too-small hand, etc.
