William Blake - Auguries of Innocence

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

Thank you all for the high votes, comments, and favorites! I am pleasantly surprised and quite pleased to have gotten an honorable mention in this challenge amid so many talented photographers and great shots. It's my highest-scoring image in years, my second-best score of my DPC career, and the third-highest-scoring image with this lens!

Many thanks to DPL2 Team Critical Mass for all their helpful criticism before the challenge began. If not for the group critique, this photo would have come out looking rather differently.

I got a few comments asking how I did this, so: this is a standard-issue crystal ball, sitting on a granite boulder in a stream. I rotated the image 180 degrees to get the image in the ball right-side up.

Here's an earlier version:

The hardest parts were finding the right spot to shoot from--moving just a little changed the image in the crystal significantly--and having the patience to wait for my rock to get shady so the reflections were at a minimum.

Thanks again!

Kind words--thank you. I suppose the old bell curve accounts for the inevitable low votes on any photo. As for the 180° rotation, I must give credit to the DPL team for that suggestion. League play has taught me a lot about the value of critique from one's peers.

Great shot. I have to admit that it took me a couple of looks to figure out that this wasn't a new take on a water drop!

Thanks for the notes on how you did this. I'm going to try it some time.

Congrat's Damon. What a great image.

I was thinking you'd get your first ribbon on this, but hopefully next round. In the last DPL, we had two first time ribboners during the league!
