First before I critique I must ask myself why used without cameras voted this image so low compared to users with cameras.
the image is comprised of a vehicle, smashed up, a police officer (I think..) a tree and a few poles. The vehicle's doors are open and there aren't any passengers from what I can see. The whole front end is smashed up esp on the right side. The right tire appears to be either turned so I cannot see it or it is missing altogether. The officer is just looking at the damage with the papers at his side. I find the two poles to be extremely distracting as they oppose the general flow of the picture. i.e. the flow goes from left to right on a horizontal plane ending with the officer at the extreme right side. The poles interfere with the flow as they cut directly into the vehicle on a vertical axis. (do you understand?)
The open doors suggest there were at least 3 passengers (though I could be wrong) What would possess two other passengers to get into a car with a drunk? Or to let him drive in the first place?
Technical... The exposure is done fairly well although I would have liked to see a bit more contrast.. the chrome should appear to be lighter with a few specular highlights (pure white).
Even though there are a few things that could be improved it's definitely worthy of top 10

I like the tones of this photo. ... the SUV almost looks pewter!
Too bad about the accident.

i know everyone else probably left the same comment, but i think the title hurts this picture. it's a great shot, well composed, and definitally the sort of thing you would see on a front page of a local newspaper. something like "Driver charged with DUI in fatal wreck" would have been a lot better. but i'm not gonna mark off for it, because this is a photography site, and not a "name that picture" site. i think i'll give it a 9.

Good advice, good picture!

Good job, very clear shot. I assume you didn't use a tripod so you must have a steady hand!! Tells a real story! DPz

good photo, I think the title isn't quite appropriate, can't picture it on the cover of a newspaper. I think a better title would have been "local teen kills child in drunk driving crash" or something like that. Just my first thought.

One of the best this week. You must have been lucky getting this one. Sharp and perfect greyscale. Perfect with the person at right. The photo hadnĀ“t been what it is without him. /carsten

The cop makes this picture really newsworthy. Framing is good. I like the greyscale approach as well. Nice capture. Unfortunate accident. - Inspzil

Don't think B&W drives your title home as hard as color would. Color would bring out the damage more by contrasting the torn away area with the finished area. Other wise this is a real good photo. Good and clear, good composition. Over all great shot, but color would bring it alive and drive it home. PTL8

This is one of the best this week. The cop is what makes this shot - very candid. In an ideal world the trees wouldn't have been there but it's fine as is. Excellent focus, definition and contrast. B&W works very well here. Might have gone 640x427 on the crop and knocked out the top of the photo myself, but the sky provides some contrast too. Well done. I think this'll get a ribbon.

Nope, this one isn't set up :-( This is a poster candidate, in my opinion. Good inclusion of the motorcycle cop. 8 nards656

I do not believe this was a Drink and drive accident
11/27/2002 08:56:00 PM
real nice rectangle, composition sweet, officer's in the perfect pose. did you ask permission before you started shooting? how'd the cops feel about it? sometimes they're sensitive about cameras, which is funny because cops are starting to take a lot more pictures. would like to hear why you chose black and white, you chose wisely.

Did you crash up your own car for this shot, that's dedication!! Tell that policeman he's HOT! In that bald, mean, I'll beat you type of way!

You have captured the feel of the moment so well, that I can almost step into the picture. On the technical side, the tonal range, sharpness and detail are amazing, especially for the picture with such a low resolution. Excellent work, good luck!

this is a great photo. the photo itself is so clean but it's a picture of a mess, love it!
great black and white tone and contrast. good composition, the automobile's angle points to the front of the vehicle where the damage is and also towards the policeman. 10 goodtempo
