As soon as this challenge was offered up I knew I wanted to do some both highly contrived and outside of my comfort zone. I also knew I wanted to do something a little bizarre. My first idea was to try to shoot in an art gallery with people dressed in bizarre clothing but with all of them only interested in a simple fish in a bowl on a pedestal table. The logistics of pulling that off in a week were beyond me but the idea of juxtaposing the bizarre with the ordinary stuck. By the time I came to shoot, this idea was firmly lodged in my head; the only change was having Sophie hold the flower pot - the pedestal table I had was too high.

The only thing that was unplanned was the specific look of the edit - I knew I wanted something that was kind of fifties in look but I wasn't sure how I would achieve it.

I think this style is perfect for the image, I really, really like this flat lighting look.

Normally I have a pretty good idea as to the sort of score one of my images will get ('Main Street' aside!); but I really don't have a clue as to how this will be received - I know this certainly isn't a typical DPC 'favourite' image; but isn't that the point of this challenge?

I think it is the most interesting work I've produced to date and I'm very pleased with how close it is to the vision I had in my head and although I can say that I have shot this for me, I'll be disappointed if no one else likes it.

Oh - I should say something about the gas mask; Russian Army surplus, bought from a local Army surplus store - £12.99. Bargain!

I think this is a great shot that deserves a wider airing.

Very well conceived and executed, the only thisn that I'm not so sure of (personally) is the colour of the toning - but even that isn't a big issue.

Certainly has the objects that fit the challenge. The old TV is nifty - not sure about the stool. Might strike up a good conversation at a gallery. Persaonlly, I would have made the title further from the literal interpretation of this to keep the intrigue high.

If ribbons were handed out for conception alone, you'd get the blue. From me anyway.

Definitely not business-as-usual on DPC. I'm sure this will do well; my only criticism (can't win for trying, can you?) is that it veers into gimmicky territory, so no more than an 8 from me.

This is just so kitschy, wonderful, weird, bizarre, and cool I juist love it. It mahes me ask WTF, and why on so many levels. And when all that is over, it makes me smile.....10

6 - Yes, a bit odd - the ol' gas mask, whilst not exclusive to certain artists, is a bit cliche for me. The quality of the image is good and seemingly studio set up makes for good lighting etc - but, I don't know, personal preference I guess - the style just doesn't appeal to me much these days.

Very cool. The TV is classic! Everything is spectacular...the emptiness, the outfit, the pose. My only nit pick is the black shadow on the chest from the bottom of the mask. Great Job.

This is by far one of the most unique photographs I've seen in a long time. The viewer has a chance to see this in a couple of ways. My first thought was that the subject (or you) is allergic to flowers. But my eye went to the TV first and continued to do so. After thinking and digger deeper, I'm guessing the subject (or you) is allergic to television.

Your tones really make this pop for me. It has a WW2 type feel. Like something you would see on a billboard. The placment of the subjects is great and conveys your title well. If it's ok, the only thing I might suggest about the photo it a bit more back lighting to avoid the shadow behind her. As ann example, the TV shows no shadow other than the legs of the stool. Please don't take that as a bad thing.

Excellent photo, so worthy of this challenge and really hope you get a high finish. This is a comment only due to not being a full member. If I was, you would have recieved a 10.

Wow! Are we back in the early years of the cold war with that television set? Is the model nurturing a bit of life in the midst of bleakness? Very nice.

Would I hang this on my wall. Probably not, but still a very very interesting picture. However I judge on what I would hang in my apartment. I am not sure if I would classify this as "fine art". Nevertheless a good pic. for an other competition. At the moment you will have to live with my 6 Maybe later I pump up to a 7. Not sure at the moment. PS. you have courage !!

Wonderful. I like images like this and am glad to see this challenge has brought out the true artist in some people. If I was better at portraits and had a setup for it I would be doing a lot of images like this.
