My second attempt at a portrait, and after the first submission to the "Portrait" challenge in March which got heavily criticised..I`m not looking for any miracles :(
As I don`t possess either studio or lighting rigs, I`m a bit dubious as to whether this will fare any better or indeed be accepted as meeting the challenge...oh well..in for a penny !
Adjustments to contrast to darken the background also saturation and white balance adjusted to alter skin tone..clone tool used to tidy things up.
Image cropped and resized and softened in "Neat image"

"...oh well..in for a penny !"

I think you did very very well in this portrait, great job!

Lets both go to Thailand and take portraits with Librodo :)

Good luck...

Thanks to all for the comments..I have learned a lot from this challenge ..mostly that my daughter is worth a few points of a start for me as a model..so I`ll have to keep her sweet :-)

Paul..your right..there`s not a lot this camera (and a bit of luck) can`t do..I`ve been considering upgrading and then think..why ?

Manny...a 9 from the MASTER of portraiture..I am genuinely chuffed to think I`ve improved that much from my last attempt.
I had your submission marked as a definite ribbon winner.
Incidentally, I haven`t submitted to the "Purple" challenge..but you`ve got me intrigued..I`ll have to look through them.

Tony, thanks for the comments, I did wonder which way to go but decided to plump for softening the image..My daughter is actually sitting at the dining table near the lounge window..the background was cream wallpaper which I had to darken.leaving the halo around some parts of the image..quite a studio set-up..eh
My wife refuses to pose either after the last portrait disaster.

Regards
Gordon

Nice photo Gordon, Lighting is great - IMHO if it was sharper maybe a high score but a lady portrait needs to be a bit soft.. If you know what I mean.. Plus your lucky have someone to pose for you, I'm Not allowed to point my camera at Suzie (the wee wife) Regards Tony

Very nice pose with a beautiful young lady. The hand could go back just a bit more, covers too much of her face and the focus, if meant to be a soft focus, came out more blurred to me than soft. I like the lighting and the way her hair shines and it looks like you back lit also to define her from the background, almost a light line around her right shoulder and part of her hair. A 5 to start, going to a 7

Lighting: The lighting is nearly perfect, just a tad bit brighter than I would have liked on the left.
Pose: works well.
Background: very well chosen for the subject and mood.

A beautiful model in a nicely composed shot! My only complaints have to do with the lighting. You are a touch overexposed on the highlight side. This loses the detail in her hand/wrist/arm and around her nose. You also could use a touch more lighting on the hair as simple as a reflecter above and to the shadow side. THis actually would perhaps even out the overall lighting making it easier to expose properly!

Wonderful shot, the title suits the facial expression perfectly. The lighting on the side of the face is a little harsh but over all a great shot. Beautiful eyes.

Nice dreamy look from the model. Seems like natural lighting, looks good!

Great portrait. This one made me stop and think... and with the number of submissions waiting for votes, that's quite an accomplishment. This entry would have been great for "Off-screen expectations" as well. I can't help but wonder what she's daydreaming about.

Fabulous expression. The background looks artificial around the shirt and hair, and the arm is a little overexposed, but still one of the better images this week.

Nice combination of softness and detail. I'm OK with the brightness of the exposure on the arm, but what looks like some haloing along the shoulder on the right is a teensy bit distracting.

Pleasant. I like the lighting on this and the posture of the hand is great. Nice casual portrait.

Nice lighting and focus. Would have preferred more of a crop on the right side to give her more left sided negative space to stare off into. Well done. :o)

good, candid looking portrait - feels very natural - background is a bit too dark for her colour/ hair though

Would prefer a background that contrasted with her hair more, but I really like this shot. A great model in a great pose, and thoughtful title. 8

Seems a little soft but the lighting is excellent. It's pretty abvious though that the background is not the original background.

... you will find me! :D

Mischievous expression (that's what I've read into it anyway!!) and beautiful natural lighting. She's a bit low in the frame though and a bit more definition in her hair would be good. She certainly must have some incredibly good looking parents... ;)

good shot but a lighter background would let her hair show better

Great photo...some of the stray hairs are distracting. You've made her skin look really pretty.

Beautiful portrait.

Critique: The hand is a bit bright. I would love to get a better view of the beautiful brown eyes.

She must really like you because she looks a bit bored, and tired of "participating" in DPC. That said, you did a great job on this image. Lighting is perfect, hair, makeup, simple clothing to focus attention on your model, and great background. -9 for a great piece of work.

PERFECT title for your image. It's great but would receive another point from me if the light on the left hand and arm were not so over-exposed. Beautiful model.

I think this is a nice portrait, however the lighting seems a blit too dark. Her head fades into the background.

Nice, dreamy expression. The light on her arm is a bit too much, and there's a wisp of hair going into her eye that is distracting. Lovely expression, though, and definately a keeper as a photo!

good picture! lighting is superb, the pose / posture is very nice. her hair is very neat, gives the impression it has been touched up a little bit (and left a slight halo whiteness effect). but that said, still worthy of a ten in my book (one of three in this challenge). i like especially the mix of greys and blacks of her hair, t-shirt and the background. tastefully done.
