Re-creation of the famous Vincent van Gogh painting "The Potato Eaters" I'm on the left with my girlfriend Jacqueline looking at me. The older couple are the parents of a good lady friend of mine who own a dairy farm in Brabant Holland and the little girl is the adopted daughter of my friend. Shot inside a section of the dairy shed. I had my camera set on 10 second timer and each time after clicking the shutter button had to make a dash for the table and assume my position before the shutter went off.

Here is the original painting by Vincent van Gogh:

I also made a darker version.

Very well done - both in technique and faithfulness to the spirit of the Van Gogh painting.

I was transfixed by this painting in its place of honor in the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam some years ago. (And amazed at the painter's style evolution thereafter!)

Excellent re-creation of Van Gogh's painting. I have to say you have better looking models!

i like the look of it but i think it would look good with a filter that made it a bit more dark.

Awesome photo. I love the "feel" of it. This image transcends the scene, and touches the soul.

This looks as if it could be a 19th century painting.

Fairly classic staging, like an old painting. Interesting interactions between the couples, and then there's the anonymous serving girl who looks much too young to be waiting on anyone (and if they're eating potatoes what does that poor kid get to eat?).

Nice fellowship photo and looks cosy and simple. Nice fresh scene when you see more wealth in possesions as basis of happiness than the simple gift of friends and family. pity about guy on left with eyes closed

Nice image, with well distributed light (though the woman on the right seems a bit under lit, especially compared to the man on the left where much of the light seems to originate.) 8

One of my highest rated photos in the bunch. This dinner scene captures the look and feel of the old world that has long gone by. I think of an irish family back in the early 1800's before the potato famine hit. I just find this so appealing in it's capture of what was just any every day occurence and to do it so well that it looks like a scene from a painting. Lighting, composition, and detail are all spectacular in this capture - 10 and a favorite.
