I love the textural as well as color variants. The contrast between the gray hard stone and the soft green through the window is not only visual but literal. Excellent shot.

Gordon,

I keep coming back every once in a while to see this beautiful photo. I wish it was hung in my living room!

i am constantly drawn to this shot for some reason. it could be the starkness and simplicity, or perhaps it is that even though the surrounding picture is dull and grey, a sense of life lies through the window. either way--i really like it! nice work.

I puzzled over that very same thing when I submitted the image. It`s there in black and white(no pun intended) on the exif data and I thought I was misreading it..I can only assume that the deep DOF is a bit of an optical illusion owing to the type of landscape showing through the window

Thank you to everyone for the comments and votes.
I was totally surprised to find that I had gained a ribbon this morning.
Going by the score,I honestly expected to see my picture finish between 10 & 20 as there were so many great shots in this challenge.
It certainly makes the journey (into the "back of beyond")to get the picture, seem worthwhile now.

I like this one. Sharp all the way through and the off-center composition. Although, this may look just as good with a centered composition.

Easily best of the challenge. Superlative textures and the composition (using a window) is such an imaginative use of selective saturation. A thing of beauty. Well done. 10

Nice idea. maybe the bit of grass in the forground could have been in colour as well, just a thought

Super contrast. Really well taken. Proper use of desaturation. The title brings it all together into a neat package. Just enough of the grass shows to let the viewer know that they are looking at the outside of the building.

A study in textures very well done! Exposure and focus on the building is perfect with a strong tonal range. It looks like you may have removed some of the color in the green backgroud - which was a goiod choice. As it is - it adds to the image - if it were bright green it would draw the viewer away from the great textures.

One of the few that doesn't feel like I'm being hit around the head with a hammer with the technique. Subtle, suits the subject matter and enhances the shot a lot.

This is a great example of where, without selective desaturation, you wouldn't come anywhere near this kind of effectiveness. It tells a story. Gives a sense of wonder at the world that lies beyond the window. We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto...! Nicely done.
