Taken on Christmas afternoon at a relatives place. I just had the camera out and took the shot. Of course she posed once she saw the camera. The main light source was to the right of show with ambient light. The conversion was done in Lightroom 2.6.

I quite like this shot as it has the old painted portrait look to it.

You nailed it with your processing. Love the tones and the character of this portrait. Excellent job.

I like the tones, also like the light around her gives the whole image a warm glow.

First impression:
Great shot of your mum. She has a genuine smile and the arm/hand placement creates a nice triangle frame of her upper body. The vignette helps draw you in to her smile as well.

Suggested improvement:
Only nitpick would be to crop out whatever is running down the left side of the frame.

Very nice old-timey picture feel, as you said.
It's not the standard crop either, but it works well for this IMO.

I think this is one of those very nearly there pictures - because of that the eye really notices small stuff and I become a little picky. For me I think you have a great shot here waiting to come out with a bit more cropping; I'd take away some of the excess headroom and probably crop to just below the finger tips - I think the direct front-on-ness would be emphasised.

I think the light, the conversion, the POV are all great though.

wow, for a "posed" candid this is awesome, the light is fantastic, great work on the conversion

really like the processing, does look like an old film shot, just taken for the heck of it in some friends house. I really enjoy photos like this, going back in a few years, this will be a photo to cherish--if its already not one.
